1.Set Realistic Goals

Set Realistic Goals

Before you dive in, define what you want to achieve. Is your goal to increase energy, improve strength, or simply move more each day? Setting clear and attainable goals helps keep you focused and motivated throughout the journey.

2.Start Small and Stay Consistent

Consistency is more important than intensity when building a habit. Start with manageable workouts, such as 15-20 minutes of daily movement. Whether it’s a brisk walk, yoga session, or quick bodyweight workout, consistency will help your body adapt to the routine.

3.Create a Plan That Fits Your Life

Look at your schedule and find time slots for exercise. Are you more energized in the morning, or do you prefer evening workouts? Choose a time that works best for you and commit to it like any other important appointment.

4.Track Your Progress

Track Your Progress

Use a fitness journal, app, or habit tracker to log your daily workouts. Seeing your progress on paper or screen can be incredibly motivating and reinforce your commitment to your new routine.

5.Celebrate Small Wins

Every effort counts! Celebrate milestones along the way, whether it’s completing your first week or trying a new workout. Rewarding yourself can help build positive reinforcement for your new habit.

6.Stay Motivated with Accountability

Find a workout buddy, join a fitness group, or share your progress with friends or family. Having someone to cheer you on or hold you accountable can make a huge difference.

Why 21 Days?

The 21-day timeframe is based on the idea that consistent repetition helps your brain adapt to new behaviors. By the end of three weeks, working out will feel less like a chore and more like a natural part of your day.

  1. While I agree that 21 days is a good idea, studies have shown that it’s just not enough to create a habit. We’re looking closer to 66-70 days (https://jamesclear.com/new-habit) for this to happen. And sometimes it might not be about how many days you do something but how many times overall, you do it. That act of repetition, of being consistent, that helps turn it into a habit. Thinking that your life will change after just 21 days is probably not ideal. It can be a great start but you’ll need more than 21 days to improve your life. But hey, the journey of a thousand miles starts with one step so just start.

  2. Going to the gym with a friend is what helped me the most. She held me accountable for my own goals and I did the same for her. I couldn’t skip workouts because someone else was relying on me. I lost some weight and put on some nice muscles in the past 6 months. It’s not easy nor simple, but it’s totally doable especially when there’s someone else there by your side. And yes, celebrating those small wins makes it more fun. Everything you do well must be celebrated.

    1. An accoutability partner!
Makes all the difference in deed.
I learned about that importance of a partner in my ballroom dance class.
      At our local gym.

In almost every exercise, you need a dance partner to lean on!

      Thanks, Ashley
